Agency Spotlight: Q & A
By Bob Klenk, VP and Director of Account Management
Q: What is your title and what are your responsibilities at Affiliated Media Group?
A: I am Vice President and Director of Account Management. I work with all of AMG’s Account Managers in helping them develop effective strategies and plans for the ministries we serve.
Q: How long have you been with Affiliated Media Group? What attracted you to the company?
A: I have been with AMG for a little over ten years now. I knew this was the company I wanted to work for when I noticed the passion the entire staff had for helping ministries of all sizes win souls for the Kingdom. I wanted to be a part of that team; and I am now able to spend everyday helping Pastors introduce God’s Word to the world.
Q: What past experience do you have in this industry, or other industries, that have prepared you for your current position?
A: I worked on the station side of the business for 15 years before joining AMG. I was a Sales Manager working with local, regional and national accounts for television and radio stations in Jacksonville, West Palm Beach and Birmingham, AL. My past experience as a Sales Manager has enabled me to create effective media plans and strategies that work best for our ministry clients. I’ve also developed great relationships with the media, and I utilize those relationships to provide our clients with the lowest rates possible.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Without a doubt, my favorite part about this job is working with pastors and lifting up their arms to help them reach people for the Kingdom. I really enjoy watching a church grow and reach their full potential.
Q: Do you have any case studies or testimonies that you can share about how AMG was able to help one of your clients?
A: Yes, we have a number of case studies, but there are too many to list here in this article. Anyone interested in receiving a case study about one of our clients, can give me a call and I will be happy to send them one.
Q: What advice can you offer pastors who need assistance with their ministry outreach, but is skeptical about contacting an agency?
A: There is no reason to be skeptical about working with an agency, it just becomes an extension of your ministry. AMG works with the key members of your ministry to help you reach your goals. When working with an agency like AMG, you not only get the expertise of one person, but you have the ability to use everyone’s experience at the agency. Another piece of advice I would offer as it relates to buying airtime, is that pastors should be aware of agencies that try to charge too much for the time. When an agency places multiple programs and spots on a station, as AMG does, they tend to get much lower rates than an agency that just purchases one time period. It is the “Wal-Mart” approach to buying airtime.
At the same time, ministries should be leery of stations and networks that offer them deals that are “too good to be true” because they typically are. When you’re not represented by an agency, it’s not uncommon for a media outlet to come at a client and offer them a “really good deal”, then once you’ve established an audience they increase your rate. Because you don’t have the negotiating power of an agency you either pay the rate or lose the time which means losing your investment.
Q: What are some things you want pastors reading this newsletter to know about you and/or your account team?
A: One key thing I want pastors to know about us is that we are committed to you winning souls. Every Account Executive on my staff has past experience and has excelled in television, radio or outdoor media. I truly believe that God first led us all into the secular world of media, then called us all together to use our skills to help His children to not only reach the lost but to help grow as many churches as we could. I know when each member of our staff lays their head down at night, one of the last questions they ask God is if they did everything in their power to help save souls that day; and each night, they can honestly say that they went above and beyond to help ministries introduce our Lord to those who didn’t know Him before.
